Rock Climbing Self Rescue
Rock Climbing Self-Rescue
The Rock Climbing Self-Rescue course is an intensive, hands-on program focused on improvised rescue techniques for multi-pitch and high-angle climbing environments. The goal is to give climbers the skills and problem-solving ability needed to respond effectively when a partner is injured, stranded or unable to continue climbing normally.
Participants will learn and practice a variety of haul systems, lowering systems, rappelling techniques, rope ascension, load transfers and improvised rescue methods. We will also work through realistic scenarios that require students to evaluate the situation, choose an appropriate system and adapt their skills to solve complex problems with the equipment available.
This course is designed for climbers who already have a solid foundation in basic climbing systems and want to become more capable, self-reliant partners in technical environments. The emphasis is not simply on memorizing individual techniques, but on understanding the principles behind them so those skills can be applied to a wide range of situations.
We will spend 1-2 days together reviewing core concepts and then applying them through hands-on practice. While some time may be spent discussing systems and techniques, the majority of the course is conducted outdoors with an emphasis on repetition, practical application and developing the confidence to respond effectively when something goes wrong.
