The Fixed Site / Single Pitch Canyon Guide certification is available to individuals who either guide fewer than three canyons with similar characteristics, hydrology and emergency response requirements or guide canyons rated no higher than 3-C2 with simple, straightforward anchors and rigging, such as single-point natural anchors, bolted anchors and basic deadman anchors.
This certification level is ideal for individuals seeking an entry-level professional credential and a foundation for gaining additional guiding experience while working as an assistant guide before pursuing full Pro Canyon Guide certification.
It is also well suited for individuals who expect a significant portion of their work to involve teaching canyoneering skills in non-canyon environments, such as local climbing crags.
Fixed Site / Single Pitch Canyon Guide - Step by Step
Learn the skills included in the ACA Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Skills Checklists.
Get out and descend canyons. Practice and refine your skills in real-world environments.
Complete the ACA Level I Leader/Guide Course.
Pass the ACA Level I Leader/Guide Assessment.
Submit a canyon resume that reflects the following experience:
A minimum of 100 canyon descents
A minimum of 2 unique canyons descended
A minimum of 10 canyon descents in which you performed in a lead or guide role
At least 3 of those lead or guide descents must be completed with a current ACA-certified Pro Canyon Guide serving as a mentor after completion of the Level I Assessment
